The 8th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration, presented by Kofago Dance Ensemble in partnership with Queensborough Community College Dance Program, returns with an electrifying and culturally rich performance on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center (QPAC). This year’s theme, "Kélé Kungo – Strong Tradition," embodies the resilience, power, and deep-rooted heritage of African and African Diasporic traditions.
Honoring Ancestral Rhythms & Stories
Inspired by the meaning of Kélé Kungo—where "kɛlɛ" signifies strength and "Kungo"represents tradition, culture, and heritage—this year’s production is a tribute to the timeless folkloric traditions that have been passed down through generations. The performance will weave together the rich tapestry of African, Caribbean, and African American cultural expressions through the power of dance, drumming, storytelling, and music.
Audiences will experience dynamic traditional African dance from Guinea, Senegal, and Mali, alongside vibrant Caribbean and Afro-diasporic movements that highlight the unbreakable bonds between Africa and its descendants across the world.
A Celebration of Unity & Community
Kwanzaa is a time of reflection, unity, and cultural pride. As part of this year’s event, attendees will be invited to engage with the seven principles of Kwanzaa, particularly emphasizing Umoja (Unity)—recognizing the power of community and cultural preservation through artistic expression.
Join us as we honor Kélé Kungo – Strong Tradition, celebrating the beauty, strength, and resilience of our collective heritage. Let the rhythms move you, the stories inspire you, and the traditions unite us all.
