OBUMU - KWANZAA CELEBRATION 2024

Kofago Dance Ensemble is excited to announce the 7th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration, centered around the theme of "Obumu" (UNITY) for2024. This year’s event emphasizes the strength and togetherness that define our community, bringing people together to celebrate the principles of Kwanzaa. 

This year’s theme, "UNITY," or "Obumu" in the language of the Baganda people of Uganda, represents the collective strength and shared purpose that defines our community. The Kwanzaa Celebration will showcase the power of togetherness through the vibrant rhythms and movements of African diasporic dance. "Obumu" reflects the importance of coming together to honor our rich cultural heritage and fosters a deeper connection among all who participate.

In partnership with Rhythm N Dance Incorporated, the Kofago School of Dance and Culture, and Queensborough Community College Dance Program, we invite you to join us on Saturday, December 14th, 2024, for a day of dynamic performances at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center, located on the campus of Queensborough Community College.

Our celebration will feature:

• Youth Showcase at 12:00 PM: A special matinee performance highlighting the talents of young performing arts groups from across New York City. This show celebrates the future of our artistic community and the unity that binds our youth.
• Adult Showcase at 6:00 PM: An evening performance by the renowned Kofago Dance Ensemble, alongside the Queensborough Community College Dance Program and special guest performers. This full-length show will embody the spirit of Umoja (Unity) and exemplify the collaborative nature of our work in the arts.
